In collaboration with our partners, Geotech International, and the National University of Civil Engineering (NUCE) in Hanoi, Tensar organised a workshop on Geosynthetic Applications in Civil Engineering on the 16th of May 2019. As one of the feature events this year, the half-day workshop attracted about 60 attendees from staff and students, members of the alumni as well as external visitors from the Institute of Transportation, Institute of Civil Engineering and Water Resources, Investors, consultants and contractors.
The first session covered a short introduction to geosynthetics, reinforced soil structures and geogrid-stabilised pavement layers. In the second session, demonstrations of the software capabilities offered by Tensar were presented featuring TensarSoil and TensarPave. Among the topics covered were the design of pavements with empirical methods, design of pavements with mechanistic empirical methods, reinforced soil design with the two-part wedge method and an introduction load bearing bridge abutments as well as a demonstration on how pavement optimisation can be used to provide a value proposition.
To ensure our esteemed audience would not be lulled into a deep slumber, we shook up the presentation with a variety of video clips and case studies. It is said a picture is worth a thousand words, and we presented a novel. The resulting discussion and feedback from the attendees were refreshing and heartwarming, as we look forward to organising our next workshop in the near future.
Look out for us at Geotech Hanoi 2019!
